Yes--I have the book you are referring to. I applauded Newsom on his suspension of the death penalty because I was staff on the NCIP (Northern California Innocence Project - satellite office of Santa Clara University) while employed at Golden Gate University School of Law. I told the governor it was easier to exonerate someone while they are still alive rather than after they are dead. Feinstein knew how to run the City well and what is happening now never would have happened under her watch RIP. Senator Feinstein.

I too disagreed with the lady on almost all issues but respected her for her approach in dealing with them. And on at least occasion, we found ourselves on the same side. A pleasure to work with her.

I didn't agree with Diane Feinstein often, but I do recall an instance, without recalling exactly, when she supported the Constitution when her party would have gone around it. Godspeed, Senator.

Hey Debra,

Very nice piece on DiFi. I liked and respected her, too. I remember the last time I saw her was at Kam Kuwata’s memorial service in Malibu. One thing she told the assembled, probably prematurely because it wouldn’t become public for another hour or so, was that Osama Ben Laden was killed. She was in the center of much of history for four decades.

I also enjoyed her sense of humor. I was at the TV station when she debated Howard Jarvis on Prop 9 in 1980, HJ’s plan to cut the income tax and Howard bet her a quarter it would pass. When it failed, Howard sent her the quarter mounted on a wooden base and inscribed plaque with the quarter encased in plastic. In her thank you note, she wrote, ‘I was delighted to receive your quarter…typically, however, you wouldn’t let me spend it.’
